CPET Seminar by Professor Lulu Qian, Recipient of the 2023 Feynman Prize for Excellence in Teaching
Inception In A Molecular World
Join CPET and the CTLO in engaging with Professor Lulu Qian, who shares the following:
"Can we plant an idea in a molecular world? Can we make the molecules dream, and convince the molecules that they can do something that was previously thought impossible? My classroom is a place where I hope to give students the experience of being an architect and a detective, to both invent and discover what could possibly happen with engineered molecular systems. In this talk, I will tell you about the molecular design competitions and detective stories that happened in my classroom. Maybe you will find out how molecules can carry out neural computation and distinguish patterns that encode a potted plant versus a teaching assistant, or how they can self-assemble into a sword and then transform into a snake at the nanoscale."

The 2022–23 Richard P. Feynman Prize for Excellence in Teaching, was awarded to Lulu Qian, professor of bioengineering. Dr. Qian will speak on Monday, December 4th as a guest of the Caltech Project for Effective Teaching (CPET). A boxed lunch will be served after the talk.
