Hybrid Analog-Digital FIR Precoding and Equalization MIMO System

Abstract        Hybrid analog-digital precoding and equalization techniques have been widely investigated in massive MIMO communication systems that use large-scale antenna arrays as an appealing candidate to reduce the hardware complexity and power consumption. The hybrid analog-digital precoder has to be designed jointly to reduce the analog hardware power consumption with constraints on the software complexity. In our work, we proposed to make use of multirate filterbank to form the hybrid analog-digital precoding and equalization problem. In particular, we demonstrated to construction of a minimal hardware complexity precoder that makes use of an analog hardware built with phase shifting transmission line alone, and derived the minimum mean squares error equalizer with a priori channel state information. Such a system allows us to build low cost transmitters without compromising the communication system performance. Simulation results will be presented to demonstrate both the structures and the performance of the proposed system.


Bio               Wai-Ming Chan received B.Eng. degree in Information Engineering from City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, in 2014, and is currently studying Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering in the same institute, under the supervision of Prof. H.C. So and Dr. Chi-Wah Kok. His research interests include digital signal processing, wireless communications, millimetre-wave MIMO channel estimation and precoder optimization.
